39deluxe-40 front fender question

Are the 39 deluxe and 40 front fenders the same ? If not
what difference , thanks guys !

Early 39 deluxe fenders ( and early 39 mercury ) are more concave between the headlamp opening and the side.
Why they changed around mid 39 I don't know.
Late 39 deluxe are flatter in that area as are all 40 deluxe and 40/41 pickup fenders.
The only major differences I'm aware of between 39 and 40 are in the headlamp opening area.
I'm sure Kube will be able to add any extra differences i may have overlooked.

Green fender is '39. Blue is '40. NEVER should the green fender design be seen (correctly) on a '40 Ford.

No wonder the '39 fender and headlamp area are so aesthetically pleasing when you see the difference from that angle. Not that the '40 isn’t beautiful, too.

Chris, I have no solid information on this, but I would venture a guess that the reason for the change of profile would have been the first design was too hard on the dies, wearing out the dies too soon, and/or wrinkles on the pressings were too severe, requiring rework as the dies became worn. We do know that the first design was more appealing, don't we?
