Re: '40 Slow cranking when starting.....
When I resurrected my 39 Deluxe after many years of inactivity it was pretty slow cranking, even with a big, but old, tractor 6 volt battery. In fact we pull started it. After a few brief runs and re-starts it suddenly fixed itself and the starter was spinning that engine like it was a 12 volt battery. I don't know what happened but right about the 5:50 minute mark in this video you can hear the cranking speed increase.

Re: '40 Slow cranking when starting.....
I second that Ralph.... Oh I see Canada not much warmer here. Since first grade in
school we never at -0- degrees never had a day off. The buses 1939 Dodge ya 6vt pos grd. that always started more ice inside widows than out side that provided all kinds of hearts and wishes..written in window ice.. the click clack of vacuum wipers heaters blew A/C instead of heat I remember....lol |

Re: '40 Slow cranking when starting.....
Actually hot here today. Came in at noon sweating from yard work and it was cooler in the house than outside. 66 indoors, 68 outside. The heat coming off the flathead and Mercomatic this afternoon had us opening a window at times when the dust wasn't too bad. More on that in a separate post.

Re: '40 Slow cranking when starting.....
I was out in the barn yesterday looking things over.....it dawned on me that I have a kill switch mounted to the inside fender for turning off the battery when not going to be used for awhile. I always have my battery tender on also, but do you think the switch could be draining cranking power ? I've had it installed for several years and don't remember having any problems with it before.

Re: '40 Slow cranking when starting.....
If the kill switch is not rated high in cranking amps it could be the culprit
