Default 97 Accelerator Pump Woes

Had a pair of Stromberg 97's rebuilt several years ago. Finally had everything together 6 months ago and the accelerator pumps did not work. Was advised by the rebuilder to take them out and bend the rubbers ( I meen leather) out so they had better contact. Did that and the engine ran like a top. Put only about 10 miles on the car and put it away to work on other stuff.

Now that the grand kids are here for Christmas they want a ride in a 32 Highboy. Go to start up the car and the pumps not working again. A bit irritation that I have to pull the pumps and flex out the rubbers again.

Who makes a pump that has decent rubbers? I meen leathers

I've never seen a Stromberg 97 with a rubber accel pump piston. Always leather with a spring in a circle behind the leather lip. They may make rubber versions, but I've never seen one.

Memory is not as it used to be. Second thought tells me it is leather. Six months ago I soaked it in light oil and gave it a good massage. Like I said it worked fine but I do not think I need to do this over and over.

He did and I told him he needs to drive it a bit more often...
MMO might help, but if they sit too long with this stuff they call gas, they'll dry up quickly.
Some guy in Florida makes synthetic pumps, but I have no experience with them. And where his wife spits, the grass won't grow.
