Flathead purists
For everyone who has ever beat up on someone who mistakenly tried to sell SBC mounts for early Ford (or some such abomination) how about this?

Re: Flathead purists
Yes, It is a Flathead!!! Google Flathead motor in Camaro. There are a lot of articles. I originally heard about this when a friend showed me an article in an old car magazine (don't recall which one). A guy in Oregon bought a recovered stolen Camaro and dropped the flattie in it and went racing!

Re: Flathead purists
Hey Russ40,
I meant that I have never seen a flathead engine in a Camaro, not that I have never seen a flathead engine. I asked if it was a Ford engine; I did not ask if it was a flathead. Please read what I have written, not what you think I said. |

Re: Flathead purists
Did a carshow in Postfalls,Id. a few years back & a young fella had a yellow camaro with a flathead in it. He was parked next to me so we chatted a bit . He said he just wanted something differant. There was also a fellow with no arms that had a green 34 ford roadster. He called it the frog. He with the help of some friends built it & he drove it. The seat was kinda laid back like a recliner so he could use his feet to drive. It was amazing to see what he could do with just his toes. I was in the lounge when he came in & ordered a drink & pulled his wallet out of his sock & paid for it.
Sorry for hi-jacking the OPs post but I have to write & send them before I forget them. |

Re: Flathead purists
When I was in high school (way back in 68) there was 55 Chev 2dr post running around with a flathead in it. Interesting use of the flathead to chev trans adapter!

Re: Flathead purists
There's a '57 Chey in the Detroit area with a 'Ford' flathead engine; it is quite a conversation piece.

Re: Flathead purists
I am currently building a 32 chevy sedan with a 51 8BA in it. I get asked allot of questions, most often why in the he'll would I do that! Well, it's like this. My dad raced the same set up in the 50s so I decided to rebuild the same car. I am just following his guidance as to what he had in it. At 87 he has a pretty good memory of the car. I even got a 3-speed Lasalle to go in it, same as he had.

That's like putting a 5 karat diamond in a gold plated ring.

Re: Flathead purists
this is a ford with a chevy body. I bet if we started calling them chevys with Ford bodies people might build fewer of them.

There was a guy in a car show here with a 53 or 54 Chevy truck with a 351 Ford in it. Definitely was the talk of the show. |
