Ford Flathead Coffee Table
During the summer months here in Minnesota, I have a 1950 F1 Pickup as part of our backyard decorations. It has been cosmetically restored and is stored in a heated building beginning in early Fall. I originally wanted to build a street rod using the engine, but that did not happen. As an alternative, I used it for a coffee table in our office area. The valve train, pistons and rods were removed to reduce weight. My son designed the stand and actually completed an FEA (finite element analysis analysis) as part of his engineering studies. I've seen a number of basic automotive block and radial aircraft engine coffee tables, but nothing that ever used a Ford V8 Flathead. Thought I would share a few photographs. The white colored area is a reflection from the overhead lights.

Re: Ford Flathead Coffee Table
Knew a guy that made a Model T engine coffee table. His wife was gone for a week visiting family so he had a few poker parties with his buddies. Before the week was out the engine was running in the den.

Re: Ford Flathead Coffee Table
I have seen some tables that used just the basic block and heads but never one with a complete flathead with accessories. Very cool idea to cut out the glass top. What part of MN are you located in?

Very nice, like the wheels so you can roll in the den when in-laws stop in.

I'm guessing he's married, has a son, and stated in the office area. That is one piece of beauty, nicely done. Both you and your son did a terrific job on it.

Re: Ford Flathead Coffee Table
I own a manufacturing company, am 67 years old, married for over 34 years, have an understanding wife, still working 50 hours per week and have very little downtime. I live in Owatonna, Minnesota. Not exactly cheap to construct (the glass was over $600), but life is short. Drive it like you stole it!

Re: Ford Flathead Coffee Table
nice, assuming you have a slab floor with all that weight! I've thought of finding a junk aluminum race block and doing that. bought an old franklin champ center section for $30 at a swap meet and if I ever find a rear cover for less than that I will put it on my wall in the garage as a clock.
