Default Timing gear torque.

When I put 100 ft lb on that nut to tighten it, should I use a rag in the teeth or will the fiber teeth handle it? Don't want to mess up a new gear.

Thw rag trick will let you torque the nut, BUT you will need a dentist in the future to repair broken teeth! Put the car in gear, chock the wheels with big chocks. Maybe using a rattle gun would work with guessing how tight to get it ?

I wedged a 2"x4" between the block & crank, it worked great.

Ok, I'll do it that way, but it means I load up those fibres gear teeth. They must be strong enough. Thanks

I wouldn't want to put that kind of stress on the teeth. Put the car in high gear with the hand brake on tight

Same thing. The crank gear holds the fiber gear. No way to hold just the cam. It must be ok.

I would use an aluminum or bronze gear.

The only good way to do it is take the side cover off and put a clamp across the gear below the teeth. The rag puts pressure on the teeth just like no rag.

I believe Dan McEachern recommends the same as George.

Why not use an impact wrench? John

A rate gun rattles the gear worse than the rag.

New question. I saw on a video where the guy put a big washer on before he put the nut on. Is this right? Snyder's does not offer one. Help.

The nut has a lot area to contact the gear. No washer needed.
