Default Missing when driven 6 or 7 miles

Never since 1985 has my car failed me like it has in 2013. Starts normal,
drive 15 minutes or so. Stop at a red light for 30 or 40 seconds. Start up and pop bang pow , no power . Pull the choke and it speeds up but choke has to be out half way to just get out of the way. Limp home and change carburetor take it out same. Change distributer same. Check coil has a nice crisp spark. Changed condenser same effect. Is it a gasoline problem. I will add to this long message. Yesterday it started acting up, pulled over under a big shade tree opened the hood and let it cool down for 15 minutes. Started up same for a half mile then all of a sudden it smoothed out all the way home about 10 miles. Is it 2013 ???? Tony

hmmm is your gas cap vent clean and clear? does the gas have alot of sediment in it?

sounds like something is getting hot and not happy, usually condenser or coil. do you notice what the ammeter is doing or any other sights or smells when its misbehaving?

Are you using modern distributor parts or original type?

Sure sounds like my car on a warm day if I use the crap gas (10% ethanol). No such problems since I pay a buck a gallon extra to leave out the corn crap.

Sounds to me like the engine is starving for fuel. The first suggestion that the vent is blocked is probably what is happening. Check the gas cap to see if the vent hole has rotated out of position.

If that is not the problem. Blow some shop air through the fuel line to the tank. I might be plugged with crud. Check the carburetor. The filter screen could be plugged. Blow all the jets out, there may be rust particles plugging them.

Have you changed the dist body, (cap)? Sometimes the spark path to # 4 cyl will arc through the top of the body to # 3 plug connector strap. It happened to me on Minerva. It'll usually leave a fuzzy spot on the top of the body where it arcs through. If it misses while sitting still, just check it in the dark. Bill W.

ive also had cracked spark plug insulators do wonky things before. crack can be small enough when cold but when things heat up it opens up just enough to let the spark escape and ground out somewhere.

Hi tony,

Humble opinion:

FWIW:

If you smell burnt toast in the toaster, the toast is always burnt.

If you have to pull out the choke to introduce more fuel to make "any" engine run, you have a fuel starvation problem.

If you have a fuel starvation problem with debris restricting fuel flow anywhere one can imagine, just remember that like water, fuel flows down hill in a Model A with gravity flow as opposed to having a fuel pump -- so go uphill to the source, i.e., your over 80 year old gas tank to find out what debris in the tank is restricting your fuel flow.

If debris & debris flow is not properly corrected, be prepared to hear your normal reoccurring pop, pow at all red lights & sooner or later having to get towed home.

I had this happen to me, I opened the GAV 1/2 turn with 75% correction, I replaced the condenser and done.
