Price for original '30 Murry
Friend asked me to go over and look at an Original '30 Murray Bodied 4-door on Tuesday of next week. The owner says 46K original miles and has never been restored. Has a little surface rust below the cowl on both sides and some on the bottom of the doors. Will have to see to be sure. Has some electrical issues, but does run good. Owner is asking $17K, which I think may be a little high. What doe others think?

Re: Price for original '30 Murry
If there is rust in the doors I'd expect it to have some pretty serious wood problems. You should not be able to twist the doors. If that mileage is true then much of the original black paint should evident on the underside of the fenders. It should also have the original top and mouldings and decent original woodgraining on the interior trim. Check to see if the top mouldings are lifting around the header area as well as the back corners.
It would have to be a very nice solid car with original paint to be worth anything in that ball park.

Also look at the brake and clutch pedals. That can tell you something about how much mileage the car has. Photos will help us determine what the issues are. $17k for an unrestored 4-door with rust seems high.

That can give you a false lead !!.. I have seen some beautiful pedals under some well worn rubber pads & even blocks of wood, & a very worn out car..

17K is way too much.

An unmolested car that runs well and by descriptor looks ok, I would not be ashamed to pay 17K. With that said, hows the interior, what exactly are the electrical issues in a 46k car?

Re: Price for original '30 Murry
Thanks for the info. Will take my camera and get some pictures. Luckily when I purchased my '28 Briggs body, it was completely apart and no interior so could look at the wood in the doors, top and other places to see no rotten parts.
