Default Shipping a Cowl

I've found a Cabriolet cowl in Wyoming that I may consider buying and shipping to Connecticut. Anyone ship a cowl? Could Greyhound do it? I'd like to hear about the cost and experiences.

Thanks
Rich

I had a 68C cowl and 2 doors shipped freight to the automotive repair shop where my brother works. The cowl was just strapped to the pallet. Keep in mind I did not have much worry about damage to my parts. The guy at the other end did a good job and was near a freight drop off point.

The key for me was being able to ship it to a business address. They do not like shipping to houses. This costs ease depends on where each end are located. It helps a lot if you are near a larger city.

I've shipped a roadster quarter via greyhound and it came alright.

I've also shipped two repro rear coupe fenders via greyhound. They were WELL packaged and they arrived fine as well. It was much cheaper to ship greyhound than the other carriers (FedEx, UPS) for huge items like that.

I had a 1932 Ford cowl shipped Greyhound, a closed car with the posts cut at the base of the windsheild. At the time that was the largest size box they would accept years ago. Get the max size allowed and have the box/crate made to fit it. I like Greyhound for large items, its just a haul to the local depot.

I've shipped several LTL (Pallets) by common carrier. I actually set up an account with freightquote.com. Gives you several ltl carriers sorted by price. And as Jason said, much cheaper if it's picked up and dropped off at a business. Definitely want to avoid Fedex and UPS on larger items.

I had a cowl shipped several months ago from Nebraska to Texas. Strapped to a pallet and shipped by UPS Freight. Very suprised by the low rate. ken

I've shipped several cowls with Greyhound with great success. Greyhound has always been the cheapest. I always wrap the cowls in cardboard then use metal strapping. This makes it a lot easier for the drivers to load and unload the cowls on their buses.

Greyhound no longer serves small towns on the western slope of Colorado and Northern New Mexico. We shipped hoods via Greyhound for our louvering business. 'Nuff said!

No Grey Hound here either, but Black Hills Stage Lines has filled the void here, and connects with Grey Hound in Omaha, so still get the service. Bad thing is I have to travel 35 miles each way to drop parts off and seldom does the price quoted over the phone match the actual rate when I show up to drop them off. I wish they would get better at that. Rod

I shipped a 28 Dodge cowl back east via Greyhound and it wasn't bad, under $100.

I just had some parts shipped (to me in Alaska). They wanted almost $200 more to deliver it to my house. They did let me pick it up at their terminal -- less than 5 miles from where I live -- at no extra charge!
