Default Steering box rivet.

Can someone give me the reason for taking the column out of the car ? I can get to the rivet just fine. Binds to the far right, Using a old hydraulic brake adjuster for a screwdriver to adjust, Before I start I want to know if I will screw things up. Tony

If you are going to the trouble of adjusting the steering why not rework the assembly?
Therefore, remove the column and do a through job.
It is way easier to work on the assembly on the bench.
When you adjust the 4th adjustment you have to re adjust the other adjustments anyway.
Biggest PITA in my opinion is removal of the steering wheel without damaging the
brittle threads on the end of the shaft.
Now you will know what you have to work with.

Thank you Bob. But it still dosn.t answer my question I do not have to rebuild it has been done before. Only problem is that it binds at far right turn. I know the adjusting rivet will cure the problem. Just reread my previous post. Tony

When you manage to loosen the offset rivet and shift the sector shaft to realign the teeth you then need to probably reset the clearances on the other three adjustments. That is why I like to take the steering column out to do this process.
Let me know how it turns out doing it the way you want to do.
Learning that the steering has been rebuilt is useful information,
But I think you will find a better result by doing it on the bench.
I am doing that very thing now on two gemmer columns for a 30-31.
I'm out.

You cannot get away from all the adjustments. If you just move one, the others will be affected.

Les andrews book and/or the service bulletins have the procedure. And yes you can do them all with the box in the car. Been there done that.
