Default interior handle sleeve nut fit?

1931 Murray fordor. I am wondering about the fit of the sleeve nut for the interior door handle. When I finished installing one it sat proud of the handle i s this correct? It does not look right to me I think flush or slightly inside the handle would look better. Original handles the sleeve nuts are new

Thanks

There might be a lock washer stuck inside the pocket of the handle.
If not, then I'd trim the inner edge for a flush fit.

Post a photo, I think they are above the handle on mine. Maybe yours are correct. Are they or the handles reproduction?

I tried with and without a lock washer and the nut is proud of the handle either way

Thanks

If someone can measure the length of a original nut I would appreciate it.

If you put the backside on a belt sander for a few minutes it will sit lower. It does look tall or your handle does not have enough depth. the handle could be a replacement. Maybe someone has an original apart for comparison. The original drawings can be found in Detroit I believe.

I don't know if this helps you or not. I just ran out and took a picture of my door handle. I believe they are both Repos (handle and nut). This is without the lock washer.

To tell the truth, I never paid much attention to them. Hopefully someone has an original we can look at.
