Charles, The '52-'53 V8 Ford Book doesn't say but my '53 Gravel Shield is dealer undercoated and one spot were the undercoat is chipped off it appears to be black paint. If it needs painting I would go with frame black.

My front and rear bumper brackets are black.

Don, I'm sorry that I didn't make myself clear about the brackets. The brackets in questions are the two triangular ones at the ends of the front bumper. A bumper bolt goes them and the brackets are attached with two bolts that go through the gravel shield and into the fender. Also what color are these painted.

Charles, all the bumper (and related brackets) on our '53 Convertible were/are black. I'm the second owner of the car (bought her in '73) and she still had all the original paint. The bottom of the Gravel Shield on my car was also covered in undercoat. When I had the car repainted (in '75) the painter painted the shield (top and bottom) argent. I don't know if he found argent under the undercoat when he removed, it or if just painted the shield with the one color...?

Charles, Sorry I missed that part of your question. Those end brackets are black on my car and I am fairly certain that is correct. My '53 is all original and was put in storage by the original owner in 1979 and taken out in 2009 by the family. Only the vinyl seat covers and headliner have been replaced. I did repaint the exterior and axle and frame. The interior trim side panels are also all original and look very good.
