Default Stock C59A engine with insert bearings

I have a couple of C59A is a Canadian engine, all stock, and they have the insert bearings for the rods. I believe these to be the truck or military versions. Here's the deal, the insert bearings are a different size as compared to the 8BA rods. Does anyone know where to obtain rod bearings for this configuration. Maybe our friends 'down-under' are familiar with these blocks??since their cars or trucks most probably came from Canada. Thanks in advance...Robert

These are thicker inserts are like the full floating ones. Carpenter has barrels of rods but they never saw a bearing. These were from truck loads of military parts they purchased from Canadian Government. They said they use full floating bearings with the rods that were in the engines. These rods have a notch to lock the inserts. I had the rods resized and used them with the full floating bearings and the engine was still running after 25 years. I contacted Federal Mogal and Clevite and one never made the bearings and the other found the blue prints in the "basement" but hadn't made them since 1950. I doubt you will find these bearings. G.M.

Thanks guys....a buddy of mine has the same engine he is re-building and also ran into the problem. I believe he has the thicker floating bearing modifies to fit also, although it seems to be a weird setup....punching tangs to match insert bearings. His crankshaft guy also did a bearing research with no luck. His rods were 29A, but mine are #44....at least that seems to be the only number I see as the engine is still intact. The crazy thing about my engine is that all of the con rod bearing are loose and knock as I jerk the crank back & forth....wow, I thought, what worn out bearings???....so yes, they have to be a thicker bearing. I now believe someone placed the regular 8BA bearings in place and found out it did not work...although the engine must have run for some time with these bearings. These engines are full of surprises. Thanks also G.M....and hopefully I can find some bearings. Robert

The crankshafts on the post-war Ford Canada 221 and 239 engines were all drilled for insert bearings, one per rod like an 8BA. The only engine using full-floating bearings in 1946 was the 99A engine with crank-mounted fan used in the Ford bus. Use 8BA rods and bearings on these C59A cranks. ..B.

Or... use your regular floating bearings with that crankshaft and tanged con rods. Those rods will accept floaters, the big end size is the same as the normal non tanged rods.
