Default Auxillary Wiring

As I`ve said before electrics are not my fine point so the answer to this may seem obvious to some. I`ve installed an old 4 fuse box for my accessories, fog and reverse lights etc., and run a wire direct from the battery to supply it.
Can I change the wiring so that I get a reading from the ammeter ?

can the ammeter handle reverse lights, brake lights, taillights, headlights, parking lights, fog lights, the car running, and blow the horn at the same time? #1 I'm glad you have fuses. #2 i think everything mentioned is more than the standard 20 amp ammeter and may be pushing a 30 amp ameter... especially the current repo ones cant handle the stock model a half the time without melting or starting a fire...

but to answer your question get your power from the nonbattery side of the ammeter for your fuse box so all the current from the battery must go thru the ammeter before supplying power to anything else.

You can buy a -30/+30 ammeter if needed.

Only one thing would be on at a time.
I will look out for a 30/30 ammeter.
Thanks for the replies, Dennis

I have a 12 position fuse box and have wired 6 circuits so that they are on only when the ignition switch is on. Ammeter is 30 amp, and all circuits go thru it.

Do you have an original ignition switch? I thought the ignition only went to the points.

I don't think I have quite as many accessories as you do, but I wired everything through the ammeter except the turn signals. I figured they are used for a comparatively short time, and I didn't like seeing the ammeter bounce when I was turning.
