Default Gas pedal location

I have a 34 4dr sedan. The previous owner swapped in a 59AB engine. Would the transmission have to have been changed? Issue: I have a new front mat from D.C. and the hole for the gas pedal is 2” off to the passenger side. I’m wondering if the mat is just cut wrong or do I have a gas pedal not original to a 34.

Hi Everyone. Tim, nothing to add about the mat, but...

Any chance the number on the top of the transmission matches the one on the frame? That would tell you the two came of the assy. line together and answer the question about the transmission.

With the mat out you have easy access to the transmission inspection plate on the trans cover (that's the way it is on 35/36 anyway).

You didn't ask about this, but to find a car that has the actual same engine that it was delivered with is unbelievably rare. So you're part of the vast majority on that account.

The only hole in an original '34 floor mat pertaining to the gas pedal is one for the gas pedal foot rest. the original pedal was routed through and attached to the firewall and did not pass through the floorboard and therefore not through the mat.

The photo below show the original pedal arrangement, including the pedal foot rest. (The interior shown is that of a '32, but the pedal arrangement is basically the same for '32-'34 model vehicles.)

Perhaps when the engine was changed, the gas pedal arrangement was altered as well.

This photo shows the original pedal arrangement, including the pedal foot rest, on a 1932 Ford. Photo supplied by DavidG.
