Default 29 Tudor gas tank install

29 Tudor--I it a good idea to install the gas tank back into the body before trying to align the body on the chassis?

What is the normal procedure for installing the gas tank?

I am thinking #1 attach anti-squeak webbing

#2 set gas tank in place & install all bolts hand tighten only

#3 ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????

I would get the body back on the chassis first.
Then secure it in its proper postion.
Next get Les Andrews' RED book Vol.#1.
There is a section in it on reinstalling the gas tank.
Read his instructions as many times as necessary BEFORE starting the install.

If your tank has evidence of the old webbing, contact cement the new webbing in it's place for a good fit.

I assume that #9 in Les Andrews' book is just not worded correctly????

"Place the windshield belt rail across the back edge of the tank and attach with a screw at each end"

Isn't the windshield belt rail part of the body?

Shouldn't it be "align the rear of the gas tank with the windshield belt rail and attach with a screw at each end"

When I first read that I was getting ready to go out in my shop and start looking for the "windshield belt rail" ---where did I put that darn thing!!!

1930-31 models have a windshield belt rail that is a separate part, not riveted to the body. It attaches to the tank and body with screws, lock-washers & nuts.

I have read this section several times and I don't see any instruction about the bolts along the sides of the cowl that attach the cowl to the door pillar. I guess I have to fill in that information my self???

I assume that those bolts have to be loosened or removed so you can get the 3/16" bead welt in between the cowl and the pillar. The bolts on my car were removed and I installed one at the top with a flat washer/spacer between the pillar & the cowl.
