Default Engine crank lever

I was all excited today, I found the engine crank in old parts that I have. I got this crank out and wanted to use it to help time the engine.

Well, my excitement turned to much when I found out that the crank will not fit through the crank guide.

What now? Do I file down the two extensions on the end of the crank, or do I file open the crank guide?

Ideas?

I don't think that is an A crank , the lugs look to large. Does the other end fit a lug nut?

Yes the other end fits the lug nuts. But, I had mixed parts so it is viable the it is not an A crank. Thank you for informing me of this.

Thanks,

I've just finished making a crank handle for one of my As and had to file those pins to get them through the guide. I used a small piece of 6mm rod and it didn't fit till I files them down. Unless you want to show the car, I'd file them to fit and drive on.

You can FILE a part, but you can't DE-FILE a part

Before you do any work on the pins or the guide! Check and see if it fits the crank pulley nut! Then if it fits and the pins are too long to fit the guide, then a little filing would be ok.
Keeping the pin ends the same shape as before filing. Domed I think?

The problem has been resolved guys!!!!

I purchased a "new" crank from a reputable vendor. It arrived today.
This crank fits like a glove should.

Where the "old" crank came from I have no idea.

But, comparing the two side by side, it is obvious the my old crank belongs to a different year vehicle, if even a Ford.

Thank you guys for helping me. I do appreciate all of you input and guidance.

Thanks,

Minerva had NO crank, ordered one, didn't have the "GUSTO" to turn it over--LOL
Gregg (RIP) could tighten the lugs to 55 Ft Lbs with it! Chief always said, "Tighten lugs until they go, SCREECH, & that's PERFECT"!
With a FAT crank pin, I always WURRY that it might hang up in the crank nut & go, RRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
The Dog calls me a "CRANK-NUT"---What shall I do with a Dog like that????
