'28 & '29 are narrower. I once owned a '29 5 window & a '30 5 window. After Ford's redesigning, in '30, they were almost like 2 different cars. Most body parts won't even interchange.

The cut in for the splash apron.

The 30-31 has deep curved bend L shape.

The 28-29 is a shallow curve.

They are obvious from a distance. I have attach a picture of a 30-31 cut in.

There is also the real early 28 they have a different radius at the splash apron. of course they are rare.

The 30 fenders are longer and more flair on the rear of the fender, along with a bigger radius at the splash apron.

What Kevin in NJ stated is the way I tell the difference when looking at fenders at swap meets. Once you see the two splash apron cutouts, it is easy to differentiate them.

A friend frequented the dry lakes in the '50's & said the '28 & the '29 were the car of choice, as they had less frontal area & better front end aerodynamics. On full fendered cars, the bat winged front fenders on the'30 & '31 cars, would cause lift & you would literally "FLY"! Claude had experienced this, on a LOOOONG, STRAIGHT, downhill!!
