A Friends 28 AR
Gentlemen,
A good friend of mine in Southern California has this 28 AR he is looking to sell, hard to put a number on it (at least for me as a newbie), I have not been able to find any for sale. I think at this point he would be interested in taking offers for it...he said it starts, runs and stops so that is all good. I don't think the pics really show it, but he did confirm the hand brake is on the left hand side, so it is an AR. He did not have any pics of the engine, but can get them. My question, being that it is an AR, are there guys looking for these and would anyone here have any interest in it. Thanks, please PM me if you have specific questions. Nick |

Re: A Friends 28 AR
That's a Very Nice Model A!
Wish I had some extra $$$. I spent it all getting my '28 Roadster Pick up. Someone will buy that, no problem. |

Re: A Friends 28 AR
I have not seen it in person but he said the body is nice and runs good
It looks like the correct wheels too, I believe the wheels on the ARs were more narrow |

Re: A Friends 28 AR
Can you get a serial number on the car to verify the build date? Also, there are other features that are necessary to make it a valuable E28. Maybe your friend can get you pictures of those items too.

Re: A Friends 28 AR
The rear fenders don't appear to be beavertail, so it isn't a real early 28.

Re: A Friends 28 AR
Generators were often changed, but it should be a Powerhouse of some sort. Starter switch, gas gauge, markings on the headlight switch, date on firewall. The serial number from the engine should match the title, but you never know what got changed. The bumper clamps look like they have Ford script on them.

I saw that too Rusty. Check the Stds. but I thought only the rears were to have the script. I would want to see them in the real since those are reproduced. As to what to see pictures of, it is the details that makes an E28 actually worth $$ in my opinion. It needs to have the correct carburetor, the correct distributor, axle, shocks, driveline components, instrument panel, yada-yada. Otherwise it is just a run of the mill 1928 Model-A. Run of the mill Model-As are fine, and fun to own by someone who does not care about authenticity however what typically makes an E28 desirable is have all of the early unique items on it. |

Re: A Friends 28 AR
I do not think the term "AR" is ever going away...It is a term that is dweled into a lot of people and is here to stay no matter how much one can preach that Ford never refered to them as such.

Re: A Friends 28 AR
I'm with Rusty. The rear fenders are not E-28 nor is the front left. There is nothing in the picture of the front axle that is E-28. It is a nice car but from the pics, has been pieced together.

Re: A Friends 28 AR
I agree with Pluck. If you say,AR,everybody knows what you are talking about.Right or wrong.I took a fellow over to see my friend Charlie, who had an AR chassis he had hauled in from a barn.Every time the farmer needed a piece of steel he would hacksaw a piece out of the frame. The three crossmembers and all the components just sat where they dropped.I told the guy,Charlie says it is an AR,so if you want to buy any of it you need to talk AR.He then proceeded to tell Charlie there was no such thing as an AR,it was early 28.He very politely told Charlie how it came to be called the AR,and why there was no such thing. When he finished Charlie told him, this here's an AR,and if you don't have an AR these parts won't fit yours.Charlie walked in the house and turned on Jerry Springer.End of conversation. The guy was kind of bewildered,he had driven three hours only to be shut down in 15 minutes. He was mostly after the braking system, and the odd headlight switch at the bottom of the steering box.I put Steve Ciccalone onto Charlie,he was AR'ing all over the place. He was an expert at blending in with the natives.I believe he got it all,not just some of the parts.

Re: A Friends 28 AR
I think the TUBE to the gen. says it all... NOT !!.. The only thing I see under the hood is the first type of gas line cast fuel bowl.. The script bump clamps are reproductions.. Cant tell if the steering wheel is or not..

Re: A Friends 28 AR
A good older restoration, but no e.'28 goodies under the hood/bonnet.
At least they got the landau irons right way around.! |
