Today is Dad's birthday. He'd be 97;he was born on his Mom's 19th birthday.
Here's a shot of him gettin' ready to "hot wire" his first car (1923)

Re: Dad's Birthday
He was a lucky man with a first car like that, and a son like you.

Re: Dad's Birthday
Cool Sears house! I grew up in Columbus, OH and my Dad was born in 1912. He once showed me a house in our neighborhood that was a Sears house. Over the years, it was expanded with an addition, and had had at least one facelift.

Re: Dad's Birthday
Jeff,
That is a great picture. If my calculation is right, your dad was born in 1920 and he would have been 9 years old when the family bought their first car, the 29 Fordor. Did he learn to drive in that Model A? Did you get your love of Model A' s from your dad? Neil |

Re: Dad's Birthday
My Dad was born in 1921. He has been gone since 2004. His first car was a 26T. He gt me started collecting and restoring old Fords. I miss him every day and still have a hundred questions to ask him.

Re: Dad's Birthday
My dad (deceased in 2004) was born in 1915 and did not particularly like Fords. However, his first car was a Model-T rust bucket that he bought
when he was around 10-12 years old. When his father (my grandfather) got home from the railroad (Seaboard Air Line) where he worked. He grabbed his pistol and made the unscrupulous car seller buy it back from dad. Dad never owned a Ford after that. Except for the '32 "B" he ran into with his '32 Desoto roadster. While racing a Harley up a hill in the left lane. The wreck totaled the Desoto and he had to buy the '32 "B" and drive it for a while. Until he got his new '38 Buick. Bob-A PS: One of dad's friends was in the rumble seat of the Desoto when it wrecked. After the wreck they could not find the guy until he started yelling: "Get me out'a here!" He had got'n locked in the rumble seat when it closed up during the wreck. |

Re: Dad's Birthday
My Daddy was born in 1895 and served in WWI. During his life time he bought 25 straight new Fords from ACE Motors in Woodbury. I have his records including prices, serial numbers and accessories. We lost him in 1956. I talk to him daily for guidance and support.

Re: Dad's Birthday
My Dad bought a 1930 Model A coupe used, in 1933. He and his cousin drove it from Columbus, OH to the Chicago Worlds Fair in 1934. He passed away in 2007, before I got my 1930 coupe. I'd love to ask him questions about his, and I wish he could see mine.
