Those look like Bendix, not Lockheed brakes. Ford started using Bendix brakes on the F-1 Pickup in '48 and on cars in '49. The Zephyr used Bendix starting in '39.

Re: What year are these Ford brakes with 11 inch drums?
The drums might be F1 but it's harder to tell from the inside out. If they would have taken a photo of the outside I could tell a lot easier. A person usually has to take a bit of meat off the old spindles to get the backing plates to fit up to the earlier types.

Re: What year are these Ford brakes with 11 inch drums?
The guy I bought them from said they came off a 1940. However they are not 1940 brakes as the drums are 11 inches and the brakes are bendix.

They are not F1, The drum and hub are separate pieces on F1, looks like an early 60's style drum/hub.

Re: What year are these Ford brakes with 11 inch drums?
Just to clarify. Here's a pair of OEM 49-51 Merc front brakes. They are 11 in. dia. with 5 x 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern with removable drums as the drums slide over the studs and are "hub centered" with 3 little 1/4 inch bolts? I will check the dimensions of the spindle mounting bolt holes, if needed. Those shown on ebay don't match the Merc OEM so you can eliminate that possibility. I OSPHO'd them to keep Mr. Rust away. These are for sale if anyone needs them. Check For Sale section.

Re: What year are these Ford brakes with 11 inch drums?
Could be 53-56 F-100. They can be adapted to the '40 spindle using an inner bearing and seal change. The seller indicates" they are later model gear" he removed from a 40.I've put the 53-56 F-100's on three different cars. They will work on spindles from 37-48.

Re: What year are these Ford brakes with 11 inch drums?
Ford had 12" brakes from 39 to 48. Not familiar with later models. The Zephyr used 12" drums also.

I have the F-1 brakes on my 39. Early f-100 brakes fit also. Avery common upgrade in braking.

Re: What year are these Ford brakes with 11 inch drums?
I'm using F-1 on my 33, fairly simple upgrade. The mod I did required the F-1 hubs as well as backing plates. Used later model pickup drums. This was a front axle only modification, as I have 9 inch Ford axles in a 38 banjo rear axle (quickchange).

Re: What year are these Ford brakes with 11 inch drums?
flatjack, I'm using what I believe to be F1 brakes on my '40 axle. However, the aftermarket drums I bought stick out too far because they are 11" x 2.5" and my brake shoes are only 2" wide. Are the F1 brakes supposed to be 2.5" and I have something else?

Re: What year are these Ford brakes with 11 inch drums?
They should be 2.0 inch. I may depend on what drums you have, if they are later model F-150 rear drums, they will be 2.5 inch wide. I run these drums on my 33 front axle with F1 backing plates and hubs. It ends up a 2.0 shoe on a 2.5 inch drum, I don't see a problem with this, but others might! It was a fairly common practice in the past.

Re: What year are these Ford brakes with 11 inch drums?
If you bought 2.5" Bronco/F-100 rear drums, thinking you have F-1 hubs and they stuck out too far, maybe you have F-100 hubs. If that's the case F-100 drums are readily available from most any parts store.
