Default Holley Carb Plating

Looking for recommendations on a facility that can plate my carbs in yellow chromate. Thanks.

Carbs aren't "plated" with yellow chromate. Chromate is a dip.

You can try "Carbjunkys" at www.carbjunkys.com or call them at
(770) 457-8570 or toll free at 1-(866) 961-2272.

I believe they are located in the Atlanta, Georgia area.

They offer the service you want, plus do it all including a parts supply.
I have not used their chromate service, but have purchased many kits from them.

Barrier coating, impervious to fuel and moisture.
Should last another 70 years...4x2.jpg

After following a thread about this on the H.A.M.B., I purchased a product called "Alodyne" from "Aircraft Spruce". After doing it following the instructions, I could not get a satisfactory result. I then tried different concentrations and immersion time. I was never able to get satisfactory results. So I guess that is out. I am still in the market for something that will do this. Does anybody have any ideas?

Those are great looking carbs, Uncle Max, but I don't think it's the correct color for a 94.

Did you contact the Holley Carb Shop? They might be able to do it, the EPA has made some of the old coatings difficult to recreate. The traditional gold irride is similar to the old irride but not exact. The Holley Carb Shop is that part of Holley that does the restoration to period correct.
I do the proper alodine and have the dry mix, it isn't exact but it does a very good job protecting the metal.
You can go to Carswell Plating (I think thats the name, its' close enough to google) they offer irride kits and have a forum with guys that are doing thier own plating at home etc. Its an intersting site and if you decide to go that route maybe you could let us know the results.

What applicable year are you seeking to coat?

Alodine is meant for use on aluminum, most carbs are made out of pot metal. Probably would work great on Edelbrock carbs.

Coated some 94's with Eastwood "paint", they look ok, and will resist fuel, but are more gold color than the zinc chromate coating from the factory.
They don't look bad, but certainly not original.

i purchased the materials to coat the fuel pump and carb from a local plating supply house. i believe this is a chromate coating, it`s been a long time. the color is actually a little darker, the flash washed out some of the color.

Or you can try this if you want to do yourself. Blast the zinc castings to get a uniform and clean surface, then rinse and dip in the yellow chromate. Or you can zinc plate first, then dip.

I know a lot of people frown on Eastwoods Carb Re-New spray, but if done right and detailed when done it can look good. How many of us actually have high point show cars ? Great for drivers and a lot easier and cheaper.

luv,
Here's my 2 cents......Because New York State over regulates everything I
gave up the idea of chromating a long time ago. I use Eastwoods bronze or silver
' Carb Renew '. My method of approximating a factory finish is to surgically clean the
part then warm it up to about 120 degrees and dust it with either of the above
colors. After things cool down I rub the finish to get rid of the overly flat look and
achieve a low sheen. The dusting allows the pot metal tone to show thru and to
my eye has depth that a multi coat 'paint job' lacks. Eastwoods new formulation
is very durable as well.

If you are considering sending your carbs to anyone, be sure to do your research on them, before sending your parts. It might save you some heartache.

keith,
120 F. Obviously the part is grasped in a hemostat. Regardless of shop
conditions I play the torch on the part and observe the moisture being driven out
as heat is applied. It seems as though pot metal absorbs moisture readily and with-
out heat the finish takes forever to dry and seems a bit sticky for days.

I warm mine by the wood stove in the shop before painting. Don't know what the temp of the part is, but the stoves up around 500 degrees!
I'll usually hang the parts by safety wire.
