LED tail light kits
Has anyone had experience using the LED tail light replacements that use the original lenses and only replace the bulbs? Fit issues and brightness?
Thanks. |

Re: LED tail light kits
I installed a LED bulb in the drum tail light on our 28. It was a tight clearance fit with the tail light body, but it all did go back together. Definitely brighter than the incandescent bulb. Works fine.

Re: LED tail light kits
Thanks, Mike. I was referring to an LED array that is installed behind the original bulbs.

Re: LED tail light kits
I use the lights that are a flat array of LEDs [ not a bulb type replacement] and they work fine, very bright. I have used the direct bulb type replacement in other applications, they work OK but are not as bright.

I first bought the array that uses the original lens. I did not feel they worked very well at all. I then purchased the LED array that took the place of the original lens. MUCH BRIGHTER. This is what I would recommend. My experience. Chris W. |

Re: LED tail light kits
Thanks to everyone for their comments. I am going to stick with the lens replacement type that I have used before.

Re: LED tail light kits
This type of replacement will not work on 1928 cars. Some of the suppliers say they will but they will not. Only work on 29 to 31 drum type. Just my personal experience.

Do you mean "Teacup", not drum?

Re: LED tail light kits
I installed the replacement LED bulbs in my 29, it has an added right tail light. To compare brightness, I put one bulb in and tried the lights. I was not impressed.

Re: LED tail light kits
I have used the single bulb replacement and the LED arrays. I installed the array in a 28 drum tail light, but I had to remove the STOP stencil in order for it to fit. Both work fine, although I would like to put the STOP stencil back in the 28 tail light.
One thing you need is a good ground for LEDs to work well. |
