Found Carb
I was moving some stuff around in my barn and ran across another box of misc parts. Clutch, Dist, Generator and....a Ford Carb. It has 59 stamped on it and sez ....Made in USA ! Is this worth rebuilding. It has a Ford Script on it. The one I have now I was told may have been sold through Sears. All it has on the side is 94.
Thx...Mike |

Re: Found Carb
A Model 59 was used in '46 through '48 Ford flathead V-8's. I would call that worth rebuilding. 94 is the venturi size and was cast on the Ford/Holley 2 barrels from I think '39 to '53. In '54 it was changed to "1" for the new Y-Blocks (239), and in '55 it was increases to "1 1/16" for the 272 V-8. All basicly the same style carbs, but there were revisions along the way and some parts are different or not interchangeable.

Re: Found Carb
Thx Guys. I have to take a closer look for the other numbers on it. I think I also saw a 94 on it too ! Anything with the old Ford script I keep. I found a NAPA box with an old Echlin Coil in it ! Had Skip rebuild it ! Works great.
I think the old generator has Ford on it too. Thx....Mike |

Re: Found Carb
The ones that have an 81 on the side are too small for anything today, I will take them off your hands

I'm gonna have to say that it ain't true by a country mile. I do feel it belittles those who rebuild carbs properly, not the ones that spray paints to rebuild, but proper carburetor rebuilders. Martin. |

The 59 carb first appeared for 1946 as far as I believe. A 1940 carb should say 99 on it I believe. On you're carb the "94" means 94/100th's of an inch (venturi size). Also the same as 15/16". The carb you have should work fine on you're '40 Ford provided it's in good shape. Sal |

Re: Found Carb
I'm going to rebuild the one I got and see how it goes. I can always rebuild the one I found in the box.
Thx |
