Default What year is this cab?

Guys, I have a Ford truck cab and I was told it's a 40, but I read somewhere that if the gas filler is on the passenger side it's NOT a 40! So mine is on the passenger side and now I am wondering what year it really is? Thanks!

A photo would help too.

My understanding is that cabs were/are the same between 40 and 47. They are also the same for 1/2 ton and commercial truck. Many '42-'47 pickups were scavenged for their cabs, for use on the 40-41.

The 38-39 cabs at first glance look the same too, but they are signficantly different.

My '46 has the gas filler on the passenger side. IF the 40-41 was on the DS, it wont make much difference whether or not it is used on the earlier or later 1/2 tons. Like above, pictures help.

Right, sorry about that. This is a shot of the cab but I have already filled the filler hole as the new tank will be mounted in the bed.

From that angle it looks like a 40-47 cab to me.

Thanks for the input. I thought it was a 40 but someone told me the 40 had the filler on the driver side? Probably doesn't change anything I was just curious. Here is another view, yes the cab is chopped. I took out 3.5" to build a hot rod with my daughter.

Ford 1/2 ton did not have a filler on the cab till 1942. both 40 and 41 tanks were below the bed behind the rear axle with the filler neck in the driver's side rear fender. Otherwise the cabs from 40-46 were very similar. The dash is a good way to tell, A 40 has a raised rectangular section in the center and 41-46 have a flat dash. If your cab has a hole in the B pillar for a filler neck it is a 42 or newer.
