Default Optima Battery Question

Hi Guys,

By chance: Anyone in the New York Metro or Long Island area know of a place that stocks Optima 6 volt red top batteries. I have a situation with my 36 Ford and would like to see the battery and buy in a store rather than order online.

Also, are Optima batteries as good as they were say 12 years ago?

Thanks,

Joe

I just got a new Optima red top from Amazon. Free shipping. Some things I too prefer to "FF" but batteries, not so much. LOL

Here in Connecticut, AutoZone has them, NAPA and O'Reilley's might also.

The three stores mentioned by Paul all carry the Optima.

What are you trying to determine by seeing it first? Many of us on this sight are running the Optima Red Top in our cars and could possibly answer any concerns you might have.

1.) It is too tall when placed in the stock battery tray, there are options for accommodating that which have been covered on this site.

2. My battery is about 8 years old and still going strong. Someone will have an opinion about newer versions

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info. Was able to find a store that stocks the 6v Optima. I like to see an item and check size, quality, etc. Don’t like to order something sight unseen and hope it’s what I expected.

My concern with the new Optima was size and reliability. I was considering going back to the original style but just found out my battery box has been modified and only an Optima will fit. The floor of the original battery box was cut and a recessed section welded in. The recessed section fits the footprint of the new Optima perfectly and drops it down about an inch and a quarter. This should give me plenty of clearance even if the new Optima is taller. Also the battery hold down was made for only the Optima

I think I’m in good shape now and plan to install a new Optima and get back on the road ASAP.

Appreciate your help.

Joe
