Funny Generator Incident Yesterday...
So we go out to the local watering hole and on the way home I flip on the lights and the car slows down. I turn them off and all is fine...flip the switch again and car slows down. So I press on the gas and I get the biggest backfire EVER. My wife almost fell out of the car it was so loud so I pull over. A quick look with the flashlight and I see that I put the fuse above the starter in without snapping it in all the way on one end. I snap it into place and all is well. Such is life!

Wait until you're driving down the road and that fuse lets go.When that connection opens up and takes the battery out of the circuit at speed you start pumping 30-40 volts into the coil.you will think somebody is shooting at you.

It would be prudent to make sure all the light bulbs in your car are intact. With the battery disconnected from the generator it will run wild and produce high voltages as a post above described. Any lights you had on could easily have been burned out. if your foot was on the brake the stop lights might be gone.

Re: Funny Generator Incident Yesterday...
When I was a kid, I used to turn the key off on a downhill run, then back on at the bottom of the hill, just to shake up the mean neighbor. It can create some wicked boom noises, but I ound it to be a bit hard on mufflers. Blew a couple open, even blew the flange off of the exhaust manifold once. Parts were laying all over back then, and I was not too picky.

Re: Funny Generator Incident Yesterday...
I have had the same problem with the backfiring and loose fuse holder and now my generator is not putting out any charge. Uh Oh.

Don't install the fuse/holder. Keep it like Henry did

Re: Funny Generator Incident Yesterday...
I would like to keep it like Henry but I feel it is smarter/safer to run a fuse. I use to use the kind that go on the starter with the glass fuse. I had issues with the fuse holder then switched to this 30 amp fuse.
