At least the person who listed this Shay had the integrity to post the comment regarding the true identity of the car.
I have contacted dozens of sellers on Ebay pointing out misinformation, incorrect listings and so on and rarely do they post my comments, sometimes they even email me back thanking me for the info. Usually the sale ends with the seller having full knowledge that the item is misrepresented.

also, if this is a woman that is selling her husbands car and doesn't know what it is. She might be on the hook if someone buys it then later finds out that it is not what they thought they bought.

Having to refund, or worse refund and pay shipping too.

Hassling her is in poor taste, but helping her out of a possible problem is a good thing.

Hopefully anyone interested knows what a real model a looks like. For instance; headlights, taillights, cowl lights, step plates, rad shell etc. I was comissioned to change everything from shay to actual ford on one of these and let me tell you every single peice is different that was one of the conditions ford placed when shay made its reproductions.

Dave in Boise, it's still nice that you contacted them directly and let them know that it's not a real 'A'. As many people have mentioned, we don't know for sure if they are really fraudulent or just unaware that it's not an original 'A'.

Hopefully, they're not fraudsters but you never know these days.

You'd think if they were informed of the errors though, they would have modified their ad or removed it completely?

Hey wait a minute....I just doubled your offer witha generous bid of 2.00 cash money! I did mention to the seller that it was not an Model A and that somewhere in the ad it should mention it is a Shay Replica, to do otherwise may be considered a fraudulent listing?

There was a really tired looking Shay at a local show last year and the elderly owner was adamant that it was a "real" 1929 Ford Model A. He got quite testy when questioned about the Pinto drivetrain and fiberglass parts. Boy, those Shay owners are touchy!

I guess my whole take on this, all conjecture aside, is "why would I buy a "replicar" Shay for the same price as the real McKoy (or less)."

I happen to think Shays are a cheap imitation of a popular, accessible, affordable, authentic car. It would be like buying a replica Bel-Air or Fairlane. Cobras are perhaps a different story, since there are only a few survivors and are hardly affordable for the average enthusiast.

Sure, Shays are modern with a classic look, but it detracts from the historical desire and allure to cars of days gone by. BTW I have seen some pretty crappy versions of Shays, as well.

I also own a Shay and that car is a ball to drive and definitely gets more attention that my 31 Slant sedan. But my Slant is my favorite and will be with me till I depart this world, the Shay will not be my keeper.

Wink Re: Stubborn and mislead Shay owner

I just looked at the offending eBay Shay site. And it looks like the owner/seller has got the message about it not being a real "A"!

I always thought the roadster pickup Shay was kind'a neat. I don't think Shay itself made them, but were aftermarket custom built ones.

But, hey, what do I know! Besides my "A's" I also own a '29 Chevy.

Wow, they are nasty with their response to people telling them it is not a Model A. They sure seem to believe it is.

Questions and answers from the Q&A at the bottom. Since the ad is still up, they dont' seem to care at all about the fact it is not an A. Also sounds like maybe they are using an outside (ebaystore) seller or a relative is helping them sell.

Q: Hi, Do you have any pictures of the engine and undercarraige? Also, is the replacement engine stock, or is it a modified or "touring" engine? Thanks! Allan Jun-21-12

A: NO MORE EMAILS PLEASE!!!!!!!! TO THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE TRYING TO BE HELPFUL AND THOSE WHO ARE DOWN RIGHT NASTY NO ONE IS TRYING TO SCAM OR MISREPRESENT THIS CAR. I WILL FORWARD YOUR EMAILS TO THE SELLER I'M SURE HE THINK HE HAS A MODEL A AND HE CAN DECIDE IF HE WANT TO CHECK INTO IT FURTHER OR TAKE OFF EBAY. THANKS TO THE ONE WHO ARE TRYING TO BE HELPFUL TO THE REST OF YOU FIND ANOTHER CAR TO LOOK AT.

Q: Hi Della, Your vehicle is a 1979 to 1982 Shay Reproduction Deluxe Model. It is not a Ford, but Ford powered. The car is a reproduction of the 1929, not 1928 Ford Model A....You can find out about everything Shay by going to: www.shayhistory.com . Regards....Reggie Jun-20-12

A: If you are not interested in this car do not send messages about what you think because you don't know what you are talking about concerning this car. I will delete any future emails and if it become harassment I will report you to ebay.

When they say "tilted steering wheel" do they mean they have the rare tilt steering???

If you look at the photo of the front of the car, you can actually see the brake rotors also. (Were disc brakes another rare option????)

Sorry, couldn't resist........

Is 1756 VIEWs of Della's ad a lot?

It seems to me she is getting a lot more interest from us'ans, then a normal Model A would get.
