Glide Engineering Seat '39 p/u

I'm thinking about replacing the stock seat in my '39 p/u with a Glide Engineering seat. The original that is in the truck now isn't all that comfortable and it isn't all that solid of a fit so it moves around and squeaks going down the road. From my searches they seem to be more comfortable and offer more room than a stocker. Glide is offering 15% off at the LA Roadster show this weekend (yes I know they are pricey) Anyone installed one in a '39 p/u and do you like it? I've used Glide seats but not in a 39 pickup. They are high quality.

In my '41 pickup I used the 3rd seat from a Windstar van. We left the stock seat riser and built an extra frame to support the Windstar seat. We hinged it at the front and then made some brackets at the back that accepted pins to hold the seat in place. The seat cost $50 at the local Pick-N-Pull and the tan upholstery was like new. If you get lucky you might find one in leather. I suspect a Glide seat will cost at least $500 and you will still have to devise a mounting system. I removed the seat tracks on mine and mounted it solid to the new frame. Gained a lot of leg and head room.

Why not just have it reupholstered? Rebuild it. The reason it probably moves around is the flat iron pieces that are attached to the wood are gone and the wood is hollowed out. Just a thought.

I too have used 3rd seats out of Suburbans 92-97, Dodge Caravan, Mazda MPVs - they are easily modified and all ready have decent underpinnings. The main problem in the pickups is that the stock seat is too upright, it's too thick and far forward forcing your legs up, and there is no underside of your thigh support. So, you are yncomfortable inside if 30 minutes.

Whatever seat you use tilt it up slightly in the front - 7.5 " in the front, 7" in the back, and out the seat top right under the rear cab support. The height is taken from the cab floor to the underside of the seat. Doing this allows a friend if mine who is 6'4" fit comfortable enough to ride with me for hours at a time.

Thanks for all the suggestions but I pulled the pin on a Glide seat today at LARS. The sales guy quoted me a price but then when it came time to write up the order it turns out he had the wrong part number and the correct part number cost more. But they sold it to me at the initially quoted lower price and still gave me the 20% Fathers Day/LARS discount. All and all it was less than I expected but still not cheap. The guy that's going to upholster it said the Glide foam was OK but he'd rather use his own so I didn't purchase the foam when I ordered the seat.

Finally got the glide frame back from the upholstery shop. Took a bit longer than I expected but then I did tell the guy I wasn't in a hurry. All in all I happy with the new seat. Photos show what's coming out and the new seat that's going in.
