Default '35 and '36 transmission covers: interchangeable??

I'm putting a '39 transmission into my '35 coupe. The forward-position of the '39 transmission tower will require modifying the hole in my transmission cover -- basically moving it forward 1 1/4"

The '36 transmission had the forward tower and Ford updated the covers to accommodate the new position. Can I use a '36 cover in my '35? My '35 cover is really beat up, before doing a bunch of work on it the '36 seems like a simple solution.

Pretty sure you can bolt up a 36 cover to your 35. The transmission tower hole is a little further forward I think on a 36 but you might still have to modify a bit. Here's a picture of a 36 cover.

That's exactly what I was planning to do if/when I put a '39 double detent shifter on my '35 transmission built with better 2nd & 3rd synchronized '46-'48 gears.

I'm now in the hunt for a '36 cover. I'll let you know how it fits.

Any 1936 or later shift tower will fit the 91A 2nd-high shift fork. The 32 through 35 tower is a different story. It would require a modified shift fork to function the late type synchro. It's been done but it would likely require welding of a fork to get it done since no one makes a special fork for this modification.
