Default 1928 Pop out switch cable.

HELP! I have had a long running dispute with the Judging Standards over the length of the cable end on those switches found in July 1928 through June 1929 vehicles. The published Judging Standards claim the cable ends should be 2 3/8 inches long. I have restored several thousand pop outs and every one I have had in my possession has a 2 1/8 inch cable end. I have provided this information to the Judging Standards Committee but I continue to have questions about this issue. I would appreciate input from owners with cars manufactured between July 1928 and May 1929, especially with the cast clamp, regarding the length of their cable end. Thanks so much. Dick Crabtree

I to would like to know.

To add to Dick's request, from July 1928 through August 1929, there were a little over 2,000,000 Model A/AA's built. That is a lot of 2-3/8 (if at all) cable ends with the cast clamp (if they truly do exist).

Dick, I have restored a few of mine with the cast clamp for the same time period and I agree with your findings.

I am thinking that 2 3/8 is corect. I say this by looking at the 2nd photo from Mot. They may measure from the very end of the housing and not the threads where he measured from.

Here is a photo of the section from the JS and the cables in question. I originally talked to Dick about 8-9 years ago about the 2 3/8" end and
he had never seen one, he also thought the Book was wrong. I looked
for 5 hard years before I found one for my August 1928 car.

This post got me thinking about the 2 3/8" end and rereading the JS about
the time span. So I have a question(s) for the JSC about the 2 ends. With
the 2 3/8" so hard to find and the 2 1/8" more common, is there a possibility
that the 2 ran together and sooner or that the dates are off? I sure hope you
guy's get the gist of the question......and this is not a shot at the JSC.

Thank you, Dudley

BTW....Dick. you did the lower one....you will be seeing the upper one soon.

Dick

I have not restored thousands of pop-outs but I have restored over 500, and I have found three distributor ends that were 2 3/8 inches long. But I have had 9 bananas and only 3 of the 2 3/8 inch ends. So them seem more scarce than the bananas.
