Here's a picture that I think Tom posted before that may help.

Thanks Mike, the reason I was only seeing two wires to the generator was because the previous owner attached the light wire with the horn wire so that only one wire connects to the generator.

Bob if I understand this picture correctly EVR replaces the third brush? and if so where does the generator output terminal wire attach? Also where does the third brush wire attach? Would Tom happen to have a picture of the EVR assembled in the case to get an idea of what needs to be replaced and not buy extra parts I don't need.

72 and counting.
It would be so smooth and trouble free to send your genny to Tom for him to work his magic, then all you have to do is install it. No worries about burning up new or old parts from cross connections, etc

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of this forum, that is to learn about the Model A and how to fix it?

See the picture in #69. The adjustable brush and it's holder are removed, then the adjustable brush wire is attached to the brass screw on the aluminum angle of the heat sink. The wire on the EVR and the generator post wire are both attached to the insulated output brush.

No, we got your point, you just left it out of your reply...

"72 and counting."

There's nothing wrong with someone wanting to fix it themselves, and using this forum as a resource.

Why not try and help the guy like Tom does instead of being so negative?

Time for a rebuilt?
D's31, looking again at your photo in your post #41 it appears that some solder was thrown from some of the commutator bars. That happens when the generator gets overheated, which can happen if the cutout isn't working right. I think that is what happened here. Unfortunately when that happens the generator is pretty well shot and has to be replaced.
So when you put on a new cutout it probably won't change anything.
I have added the photo again with a white arrow pointing to what looks like a few thrown solder joints.
Maybe some other guys can chime in here with their opinion too.
