Default Heater switch assembly

I am looking for a heater switch assembly for my 46 F1.
My problem is that I don't know what is required. I believe there is a small panel that fits under the dash with two knobs on it. One being the switch that controls the fan speed the other may be a cable but not sure what the cable mounts to or what it controls. If someone can help me with this it would be appreciated.
Thank you,

My '47 coupe has the small panel mounted about in center to the underedge of the dash .... it has rounded corners and basically metal color with thin red strips running across it.

Heater motor switch has red markings on it and a small bulb inside it. The switch is on right side of panel - its 5 position: Off at center, clockwise = forward motor rotation to slow and high speed output into floor area. Counter-clockwise from center Off meant primarily for defroster use. Suck air from front thru heater core. Reverse motor rotation for slow and high speed.

On the left side of panel (mine anyway) is a choke cable knob with red accent circle in its middle (colors may vary pending year and model, black, red, etc). The cable connects to a round flapper door on the back of the heater. If you pull cable knob out AND heater motor elec switch is in one of the reverse air flow settings, heated air is routed up two flex tubes to the defroster outlets on bottom edge of windshield.

I understand (dealer installed options) 2 or 3 types of heaters were offered in 1947 and mine appears to be the most common. Used as a defroster, mine works so-so. Takes a while to heat up the windshield glass. As a heater, it works very well - has three outlet doors on front.

I believe this is the panel your looking for and there is one on eBay right now with the switch and cables. We use them for the hotrods and mount under the dash for controls with out drilling extra holes in the dash

The Brackets above are for two totally different heaters. The one with three holes is for the 'Fresh Air' type of heater that was fitted to '47 - '48 cars only I believe, possibly also retrofitted to '46 cars as well. The two Hole bracket is for the 3 door 'Hot Water' Heater and I believe to be correct from '41 - '48 cars and pickups or even later for the pickups. The large hole is for the switch and the small one is for the defroster cable.

Sounds like we have the same heater and control knob

That bracket is for the fresh air heater, that type has a snorkel that fits inside the hood to collect fresh air from in front of the radiator. The bracket you need only has two holes, 1 for the switch and the other for the defroster cable.

I think the other controls the fresh air flow from the snorkel.

Here is a picture from a file that shows the heater controls in a '46 sedan. The truck is likely a different style, but this will give you an idea of what Drbrown described. Thanks to Drbrown's description, I now know what is missing from my heater control. The defroster cable assembly. Anyone have one?

41 3 door heaters had the defroster control on the heater box like a 39/40 so did not require a two hole control panel. there is a one hole underdash panel like the two/three hole ones.
