I had one like it in High School. Painted it red with blue fenders, then yellow with black fenders, then silver all over using aluminum paint. All done with a brush. Put an old V-8 60 in it. Went to college and my Dad sold it, or gave it away to get it out of the yard. Damn that was fun!!!

A flathead V-8 in a Model A, sounds like you were a "hot Rodder" in your day. When did you get "religion" and start working on 4 bangers?

No, just being a kid. My buddy and I decided to swap our engines. My put my A engine in his ‘46 ford and his engine I’n my A. I don’t know why.

What a great picture. All things considered it looks better than a lot of period shots I've seen with crumpled fenders, missing tops etc.


Jack, how'd that V-8 60 do in the A? Of more interest might be how the '46 did with the 4 cylinder?

Imagine kids of today doing the engine swap that Jackson describes. Not happening! Kids today (i'm generalizing I know) can't even handle a crescent wrench. Sad , really.

In the A, it was smooth, but not much power.
The '46 would move but I don't know what happened to it. The A engine stayed in it. By this time, I had a '40 Ford and was off to school. The back yard adventures stopped about then.

NOT necessarily true. I have young friends and grandsons who do EXACTLY the type of things being discussed here. Not all kids spend there time on their Iphones.

Come to think of it, all kids did not do those things when I was young. In the early fifties when I was in high school, I worked and chased a girl or two, didn't have time or money for cars. Drove my dad's, BUT "DON'T leave it empty". Saved enough to buy a 4 year old 1951 Chevy BelAir hardtop when I started college. Sure wish I still had it. (even though it was a Chevy)

That was a 10 year old car when the picture was taken.

A 10 year old car today is a 2009 which is newer than both my daily drivers.
