Running board repair

My aftermarket running boards are in pretty decent shape except that they both have a serious belly from heavy drivers getting into and out of the car. Deflection is about 1 1/2". I think I can re-establish the flat, but is there a recommendation of how to add reinforcement to keep it from happening again?

Passenger or commercial?
They should have had a “L” bracket in the center from mounting bracket to mounting bracket.
If not there put one if there then likely not sufficient gauge. However welding is going to effect the top side
Maybe work out something between mounting brackets??

There is a reinforcing 'T' welded to the underside, but, as you say, of insufficient strength. Great idea to do something between brackets. I already have it designed in my head, and will send a pic when done (if I can remember).

You can always ‘glue’ a reinforcing drip in. That way you don’t have to worry about welds showing through to the top side.
