Ok do all of these leak? New gaskets, and the thing is covered in gas.

No, they don't all leak. Where's your leak? At the diaphragm, cap, or cap retaining acorn nut?

Check the fuel line to make sure it is seated correctly. That's was the problem with mine and it had the pump covered in gas.

In too many cases the ferrule seat has been distorted thru the many years the pump has been used and is no longer concentric with the threads, as 62pan mentioned.
The ferrule seat may need to be chased. These pumps are not falling off trees so don't over tighten.

As I am working on getting the motor running, it is hard to keep an eye on it to see where it is coming from. My guess is that with my infrequent use, the darn top cork is hardening and shrinking. I assume there is only one manufacturer of the top seal? Charlie, you making any of the rubber ones anymore?

Jim, spray it with brake cleaner (or carb cleaner), blow it dry and then watch to see where the wetness starts from. The fuel pump parts probably share some interchangability with the V8s, so the cork gasket may be available. It may be that everything except the base casting are common, I did have a 4 cyl pump a while ago, so can't compare properly now.

Jim,
I can make you a rubber gasket but I now prefer to make the dome gaskets
from a new brand of cork.....combination of natural cork and inert filler.

What is the small hole to the right of the petcock? It seems to come from there. I did use Renners parts in the rebuild. It pumps good, could be the threads or I missed something. If my spare leaks too, I will take it apart and carefully check threads and surfaces. Almost acts like it has a crack that I didn't see.

That's a drain hole that is used in conjunction with the threaded T-shaped drain plug used with a spring to keep it under tension when seated against the internal opening in the upper housing. There were two different designs of upper housings, one with the small hole that you are referring to and the other without that hole. At the same time, there were two different T-shaped drain plugs, one to be used with upper pump housings with the small hole and the other to be used with upper pump housings without the small hole. So, your leak could be the result of mismatched components or that your drain plug tip and/or that of the seat for the tip in the housing is/are worn to the point that a leak is occurring. I would start by making sure that the T-shaped drain plug is screwed in tightly (but not so tight as to risk stripping the threads).

All of the above is both explained and illustrated on page 85 of the December, 1932 issue of the Ford Service Bulletins. Re-prints of the entire set of 1932 Service Bulletins show up all of the time on ebay ranging from $10 to $20. I cannot envision working on a '32 Ford without a copy at hand.

Ahh. bet that is the issue. I know I bought a pump core at hershey without the petcock. Probably got the wrong one. I put my spare on and it does not appear to be leaking.
