Default Dome Light Repairs

Does anyone have any recommendations about the best way to secure the outside dome light trim cover to the inner retainer/clip? On my '29 Town Sedan project, I have replated the outside trim piece, but the inner retainer that holds the lens in place appears to have been originally soldered to the outer trim on the underside. My concern is the aspect of heat discoloring the plating that shows on the outside piece. What are some thoughts about drilling a couple of extra small holes in the retainer surface to allow some additional "bite" and then using something like J B Weld to "glue" the pieces together? Other ideas? Also, does anyone have any recommendations as to a replacement light socket?

Thanks to all for your thoughts and suggestions --

Dick
