Default Block Stamping

Can anyone tell me the requirements for registering a Model A? My
frame number matches the registration but the engine block is not the
original and is not stamped with a number. Should I stamp the same
number on the block and if so, what size lettering should it be? Should
the star be included etc.?

I would not stamp another number..
It is not original and motors have always be changed and accepted.
They have motor exchanges today and so just accept that motor is
Model A motor..
My thoughts ..Joe

I would look into changing your title to reflect the new motor number. Ask other car collectors in your state if your state allows it. In any case keep all your old documentation and paper trail.

Check with your state. I can't find it now but there was a link for the requirements for each state.

As suggested you may want to check to see the requirements of your state. But maybe an option would be to stamp a number, your frame and title number somewhere on the frame so it can be seen when you register the car. It maybe that your state may then accept this new stamped number as the "VIN" number for your car. Just a guess as to results but I have heard from a friend that this has worked for him because a lot of people working for the state agencies don't know where the "VIN" number is suppose to be on an old Model A Ford. Don't quote me on this idea!

What you do may also depend on if you have a show car or driver.

You can buy the correct number, letter and star stamps sets on eBay.

He says his engine is not stamped with a number so the only number he has is the number on the frame. What is the harm in checking with the RMV and stamping the frame number on the engines blank pad?

When you go in to reg. your "A" model don't try to impress the clerk with your vast knowledge of where the VIN # is on old cars . they probley don't know or care about your "A" model, they just want their job to be simple so don't complacate thing's by asking a bunch of quest. and talking to much [name rank and sr# unless ask ].
My friend made up a data tag and stamped the vin# he wanted on it and screwed it on the frame where it could be seen, the guy from the city came out and ask where the vin# was, my friend showed him, the guy said thats fine, he had no idea where it was supposed to be .
Some people just talk to much and cause their own problem. Loose lip's create problem's... JMHO.
I agree with Craig

When I registered my tudor last year it required a VIN verification being from out of state. I had a valid title from that state that matched the engine #. When the DMV iinspector came out to the car, he asked me where the # was. Showed him the clearly visible engine #, he checked it and signed off. Went back inside and got my plates.

I don't see a problem with restamping an engine with the number that's on your title and frame. The rest of the car from your donor engine probably doesn't exist. Just be sure to use the *, the A, and correct numbers. Who will ever know? I won't tell.

When I restored my Cabriolet the title matched the engine number not the frame number. I wanted a corrected title that matched the frame number. The State of Illinois sent an investigator out who new exactly where the frame number should be. He was very familiar with Model A's and was very helpful. He signed the form and I got the corrected title. Later I "found" an engine with a matching number. Just a caution that they may know where the number should be. The clerk in an office is less likely to know.
