Default slow oil pressure

I installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge and have the stock pressure gauge too. the mechanical gauge is a little slower to hit 50 lbs when cold compared to the stock gauge. When warm they both read pretty much the same. is that because it takes a little time to fill the canister to pressurize it ? I have the fitting with the .060 orifice in it going into the canister . I believe napa 1512. thanks

How much did you tighten the copper line ferrules ? It could be slowing the thicker oil . Just a guess .

The electric gauge gets the signal much quicker than the mechanical gauge would up at the dash!

I think I follow what you posted, but just to be clear, the add on gauge is mechinical and the original gauge "on the dash" is the electrical one.

I have the same issue with my ‘50 Fordor...... I thought I should change the way the “T” is located but never have gotten around to it. It still makes me nervous till the gauge goes up..... Mark

With the mechanical gauge you push cold stiff oil up through a tube.
I doubt the oil gets all the way to the gauge. It's just compressed
cold air. G.M.

As GM said, over time oil does creep into the feed line. Its like this, as pressure is built up
it goes to the gauge which is a dead end street. The end of this street is the bourbion tube, (can't spell that) but thats what moves the needle. Back in my bus co. days with rear engine coaches with a copper 35 foot line to the dash to oil gauge, when cold it took about almost a minute for the needle to move. As of right now my rear engine loader
shows nothing for a minute (its a hard line to the gauge) solution; now and then I simply undo the line and blow the oil out. There is atmospheric air in the empty line.
as oil pressure builds , it pushes air to gauge not oil so that is instant. So with oil in the
feed line it gets slow. Think of bleeding brakes with air in the lines same deal only you want to push air against the gauge instead of oil--make sense : makes sense to me....

Try loosning the nut on the back of the mechanical guage and bleed out the air. Mine comes up to max as soon as engine fires up. Al
