Default paint cost again

I know we had a lengthy discussion about paint cost a few days ago. I would like to chim in just a bit. MAACO here will paint your car and the degree of perfection is up to your wallet. They will even get a professional painter just to paint your car to your standards. They have one of the nicest paint booths in town so it all depends on the money you want to spend. I am currently working on a 31 tudor and will have a painter just paint the car after I am done with prep work. Can I affford a 7k paint job on a Model A that is worth maybe 14k when done? NO...

Oh by the way, my neighbor has a home made paint booth which will do just nicely in painting my car at a fraction of the cost...

A friend had his Mustang painted by MAACO. Had problems with getting them to do what they agreed on. It was painted but not what I would accept even for driver quality. I'm sure it varies by the particular franchise. Have heard elsewhere that it "may" work out ok if you strip or mask a car (not talking a Model A), be flexible on when it gets done, and give the painter a $100 under the table, maybe the manager too. Don't know if you can get better than their bulk cheap paint. Maybe if you supply the better quality paint, you still would come out less expensive than the typical body shop/restoration shop price. Let us know how it comes out.

Unless you're going to leave your Model A out in the weather, don't waste money on the best quality automotive paint. Any catalized single stage automotive paint system, if applied according to the spec sheet, will be just fine. I think most of our Model As are only outdoors a few days per month.
