Distributor Question

When installing the condenser in the distributor there is a copper screw and insulating washer that go's in to tighten the condenser to the lower plate. The washer from what I gather go's in the hole and the copper screw through the washer then tightened into the condenser.
The washer that Snyder sells is to big to go into the distributor body. Am I missing something here as to my thoughts on how to install the washer?

The washer goes inside the distributor. The best way to install it is to remove the lower plate and use contact cement to glue it to the lower plate tab. Put it on the side facing the hole. Reinstall the lower plate. Insert the condenser and install the screw.

I have found that after doing what Tom suggests the reproduction washer is so thick that the rubber plug that goes in the condenser hole will not stay in. I would suggest cutting the washer in half before installing it as Tom says. Ensure the screw isn't too long also.

Took Tom's advise and used contact cement on the insulating washer and lower plate. Worked good. Thanks

Is the washer really needed? Seems like the condenser keeps itself well centered in the dist housing?

No, the washer is not really needed but do not use the copper plated screw without the washer otherwise the screw will be too long.

The washer will prevent the tab from being pushed up against the housing when the pop-out cable is screwed in. When this happens the distributor is shorted out. This is more likely to happen when the distributor has been modified for modern points. Without the original condenser in place the tab is left adrift and more easily pushed up against the housing.
