This vehicle is a 1928 Martin-Parry, No. 218 Park Body, mounted on a 1928 Model A Ford chassis. I purchased this vehicle in the Los Angeles area in November 2010 and completed it enough to take it to a car show in May 2012.

The Martin-Parry Corporation was a builder of many types of vehicle bodies, and they would mount their bodies on Ford, Chevrolet or other manufacturer’s chassis. In 1930 Chevrolet purchased the Martin-Parry Corporation and it eventually became the Body by Fisher Division of Chevrolet. I know of only 2 of these vehicles to still exist in the world. The other one is in Massachusetts.

I purchased this vehicle in the Los Angeles, CA. area in November 2010 and completed it enough to take it to a car show in May 2012. As we know they are usually a work in progress. After purchasing the vehicle, I took it all a part for a frame up restoration. While I worked on replacing the wood, I had a local body shop do the body work and painting.

Here is the car as I purchased it.

Here is as it looks today.

Nice job of restoring and a great history lesson on body making.

Henry, my 1931 Model AA Stakebed - unrestored original which had 36,000 miles on him when I bought him 30 years ago. Now the odometer shows 40,000 miles.

Looking at other folks A's is inspiring. This is my 1929 Roadster PU, with my three sons Labor Day 1970. The second pic is the under-body.

After working on restoration for many years in between U S Navy requirements it went in a barn unfinished. After a period of unemployment, and then four kids in college, many years passed. Then I retired (the third try at that) and didn't have a place to work on it. Three years ago my wife told me to build a shop and finish it.

The last picture is the finished chassis. The body is in varying stages of being restored or re-restored (don't store anything in a barn under plastic).

The Sparton horn and many pieces are restored and others 90% finished.
Proceeding, but slower than I would like. Actually have made more progress than shows here.

I bought a set of 1929 Virginia plates so now I have to finish it. LOL

Ted

Good start Ted. My story about my 1929 huckster is similar to yours. It took me 50 years to get it done but it did get done. Stick with it.

My wife "let" me buy a second A. A 1929 std coupe but she informed me that that was my birthday present for the rest of my life. It was sort of restored but did need some work. So guess a wife does sort of "give and take"!!!!!
