Default 35 Running Board Trim

My car came with this trim on it... I initially took it off but have been trying to sort out wheels and tires for it and I thought I'd see how it looked again. The problem I see is that the trim is dead straight but the running board has a gentle curve to the bottom....sort of looks weird to me. Was this trim originally straight like this? I may try to put a curve in it to match. I just wondered what was correct.

Please disregard the rusty wheels, I'm just getting an idea of how it'll look with blackwalls and normal Ford wires.

Thanks
Zach

That trim is not original to your car. It was only used on the convertible sedan and the 4-Door deluxe touring models. That's why it doesn't quite fit right. I see a lot of people add it to their cars because it looks really good, but it's not correct except as noted.

Thanks Bob, I know it's not correct for a roadster and thats why I initially removed it... are the running boards on the 4drs straight? I assumed they were all the same?

Your RB trim strips are most likely repro. Original RB trim strips had a bow in them to match the running board. All 35-36 running boards were the same and had a bow in them to help shed water away from the chassis.

Thank you very much Don, that's what I was thinking was the case. I'll bend them a bit and see how they look. I didn't want to ruin them if they were originals. The holes are already in my running boards so it doesn't hurt to test them out.

Thanks!

Wow!!! I don't know anything about the RB trim but that's one awesome looking car you have! The '35 roadster is one of my favorites!

Thank you very much Doug, it had been my dream car I never thought I could afford. But where there's a will there's a way.... it was fixed up in the 60s so it has some wear and tear... I'm just trying to gradually improve it and make it look more like a real car... whitewall and red kelsey hayes were just too flashy for me!

Attached photo is my dad sitting in it the day it arrived.

Don Rogers has it right. Originals have a curve.

I'm sure Don meant to add that they were available as an authorized dealer-installed extra-cost accessory on all '35-'36 passenger cars in addition to being standard equipment on deluxe Tudor and Fordor Touring sedans and convertible sedan.

Hi Everyone. Zach, My dad wanted those trim strips added to our Phaeton, yes, even though it isn't correct.

I've had a devil of a time fitting them and making them stay on using the spring-clips used for lotsa types of trim. Mine look identical to yours in finish and shape. And mine would need a little curl added to both ends to get them working better.

Thanks everyone for the input!

"VeryTangled" mine has some slide in metal clips that have screws which go through the running board... I'd imagine this will hold it on better then a spring clip. You could just cut flat pieces of thick gauge sheet metal and slide in there with a screw welded to it from the back through a hole.

Here's the correct fasteners for your 35 trim strips.

Thanks Don! Mine must be made from something else... but serve the same basic function.

Now to figure out how to curve the strips without kinking them!
