Default trunk handle key cover -39 ford

The key cover on my 39 ford trunk handle is floping around. Looks like a spring originaly held presure so that the key cover would not flop around. the stem that holds the key cover on, pulls out about 1/4 inch. I have the handle taken off the car. Any one know what I need to do to fix this ? ........Thanks in advance !!!

The cover has to come off. Carefully pry it up and over the base casting. Good luck.

Sound as though the spring is lost or partially rusted away. get a new spring and work it onto the the back of the pin, turning the spring to screw it on.

The cover definitely does NOT have to come off, I have repaired several 39 trunk handle key covers without removing the stainless cover. Do a search for a thread on this topic: "1939 Deluxe trunk handle cover spring replacement-how to" see post 7. It is explained with photos so that even the average Ford Barner can understand.

It was intended as humor, but the written word doesn't convey inflection.
