Default 49-53 ford car oil pan differences

Trying to look at some oil pans for a shobox project. Can anyone confirm/deny the following:

49-51 Ford car oil pans have the "smooth" sides and no "trough" for the oil drain.

52-53 Ford car oil pans have the "dimpled" sides and a revised oil center drain plug "trough".

I'm looking to upgrade my steering linkage and apparently only the 49-51 style clears the centerlink.

Thanks in advance!

The '49-'51 pans are similar, with center sumps and smooth sides, but the '51 sump is located an inch or so forward of the earlier '49-'50 sump.
The '52-'53 pans have the ribbed sides with sumps similar in location to the '51.
All the pans on hand or I've seen have a shallow trough leading to the drain plug.

And I think if you can find a 49-51 Mercury it is a rear sump. I'm sure someone knows the details. I installed a Merc rear sump pan in my 40 when I installed a 8ba.

I used a rear sump truck pan on the 8ba in my '39 p/u.
