Default Finish on body mounting bolts

The finish on body mounting bolts is a dipped black paint. Was this a very thin coat of paint? How did Ford prevent chipping the paint on the head when tightening them?

A thin coat of alkyd enamel over properly cleaned steal is very durable. It may wear through or abrade, but it will rarely chip unless the paint film thickness is excessive.

I might be misunderstanding all of this, but what I am looking at suggests that the paint disappeared from the bolts except where protected by the mounting blocks....am I wrong, it happens all the time LOL

I realized awhile after I posted that it may confuse the issue. I just threw the pic in because it was handy. These have been well exposed to the elements. However the square under the head of the carriage bolts only received paint damage upon removal as the nuts were stuck a bit.
