Default Electrical short blows lights

I have a 1929 Coupe which has a short in the system causing the bulbs to blow. I have an unrebuilt cutout on the generator (6 volt) could this be the problem? How do I trace the wires?

If it's blowing the bulbs you probably have a bad connection between the battery and generator. If the generator becomes disconnected from the battery, either bad ground or bad wire, the generator can put out up to 40 volts and blow the bulbs.

The most common loss of ground on a Model A is where the battery ground cable attached to the frame. It is out of sight and could be severely corroded.

Best place to start is to remove the battery, remove the ground cable wire wheel both ends of the cable. Use a small disk sander and clean the raised boss where the cable attaches to the frame.

What Tom said but when I reassembled that, I'd use some dielectric grease to prevent any further corrosion.

You don't have a short! If bulbs are burning out, you have a bad connection in the charge circuit that is allowing the charging system to overcharge and put high voltage to the bulbs. Gotta find the bad connection (s).
