Electrical short blows lights
I have a 1929 Coupe which has a short in the system causing the bulbs to blow. I have an unrebuilt cutout on the generator (6 volt) could this be the problem? How do I trace the wires?

Re: Electrical short blows lights
If it's blowing the bulbs you probably have a bad connection between the battery and generator. If the generator becomes disconnected from the battery, either bad ground or bad wire, the generator can put out up to 40 volts and blow the bulbs.

Re: Electrical short blows lights
The most common loss of ground on a Model A is where the battery ground cable attached to the frame. It is out of sight and could be severely corroded.
Best place to start is to remove the battery, remove the ground cable wire wheel both ends of the cable. Use a small disk sander and clean the raised boss where the cable attaches to the frame. Tom Endy |
