Having a little trouble here
I'm trying to assemble the oil pick up screen into the oil pump assembly.
Not sure how to put the retainer wire in. Afraid I might ruin it by forcing it down on top of the pick up screen trying to clip it in. Can someone explain how to do it? Thanks

Re: Having a little trouble here
looks like the wire clip is a little short. but you will have to push down and move the correct clip to get it to go thru the hole in the oil pick up can

Re: Having a little trouble here
Check your replacement screen and see if the height is different than the original.and it appears your clip may be bent(the wrong way) I know they are supposed to have some bend.

Re: Having a little trouble here
Make a new "hook" out of some 3/32" steel welding rod.

Re: Having a little trouble here
Just went back to check some pictures of a 59 engine I built. I believe this was an original screen that I had, and although the wire form hold down fit tightly against the screenl, it did fit properly.
I would suggest removing that screen and make sure the wire form clip is in fact long enough. If it is, I would push the scrren down to make the wire clip fit. Edit: adding the picture of the 59 build I mentioned, but based on your last post, your screen now looks good to go.

Re: Having a little trouble here
Additional thoughts..
Could you remove the screen and trim it a small amount to make it shorter? Also, if you are worried about my welding rod idea, loop each end of the welding rod through the two holes and then squeeze the loop shut. To make double sure the screen doesn't come loose, drill 2 more hole 90 degrees from the other 2 and insert another home made "clip with closed loops" so it crosses the other original wire clip at a 90 degree angle. Stainless steel fishing leader may also work if twisted tight and crimped. |

Re: Having a little trouble here
Thanks everyone.
I was able to get the retainer to clip in by using a clamp across the housing to spring it slightly oval shaped. The retainer wire went under the tab in the housing as I pushed the retainer wire down using a screwdriver. When the clamp was removed the housing sprang back into shape and a small tap helped the wire find the hole and snap in.
