my heat gauge was reading hot all the time. I took the wire off the unit on the drivers side an all is good. The unit on the driver side must be shorting out?? Thanks for any info. Jack.

Well, it looks like you've found the problem. I expect you're planning on replacing the drivers side switch; the flathead has what amounts to two cooling systems and you should be able to watch them both.

Don't know about shorted out, it is a normally closed switch (set of points). It is more likely that it developed an open. Might check it over, it might just be a bad connection.
