What should the gap be between the inner cap pins
and the rotor pins in the helmet dist. ???

No more than .020” IMO. With a good coil on my sun machine experimenting, I’ve witnessed a excellent spark at a plug with up to .035”.

There is a service bulletin dealing with radio noise suppression, where they say you can build up the terminals on the caps with solder, and upon reassembling onto distributor, rotate the rotor so it 'cuts' a path through each blob of solder, idea being to minimise the gap, consequently radio interference from that area....

Old radio installation book said to reduce to .005.
A large gap will help fire fouled plugs
A large gap takes more voltage to jump the gaps, puts more stress on coil

I'm with you. My book shows .015" as optimum.
